Ticketed events and silent auctions

Sell event tickets in your donation form and run a silent auction online, from the first bid to the last payment, with receipts that state what's deductible.

Rohit Kaushik, Head of Engineering

Your events, dinners and auctions can now run through Sponsor a Purpose: sell the tickets, take the bids, collect the money and send receipts that get the tax math right.

Event tickets

  • Ticket tiers. A campaign's new Tickets tab sets up ticket tiers with a fair market value, and you can record ticket sales by hand.
  • Buy in your donation form. Supporters buy tickets right in your donation form or on the hosted event page, with an optional gift on top. Seats are held while they pay, so an event never oversells.
  • Receipts that state the deduction. Each ticket receipt and year-end statement shows the value the buyer received and the part they can deduct. A platform tip is never counted in the deductible amount.

Silent auctions

  • Set it up. A campaign's new Auction tab sets the bidding window and the lots, each with its fair market value. Bidders bid with a maximum, and the auction bids for them in increments. A bid in the last three minutes extends the lot by three minutes, and a bid that reaches the buy-now price closes the lot at once.
  • Bid online. Bidders register from a public auction page without making an account, keep a card on file and bid with a maximum. They get an email when they're outbid, when a lot is closing soon and when they win, and they pay for what they won from a link. Copy the public bidding link from the Auction tab to share it.
  • Collect and close out. Charge a winner's card on file from the Auction tab, or mark lots paid. One receipt covers everything a winner bought and shows each lot's fair market value and deductible amount. If a winner never pays, forfeit them so the runner-up can take the lot. See what's still uncollected, and settle the auction once everything is paid.

Earned revenue reports

Standard reports has a new Earned revenue section:

  • Ticket buyers lists every ticket sale this fiscal year with what was paid, the event's fair market value and the part the buyer may deduct.
  • Auction lots lists every lot with its winner and winning bid, what's been collected and what's still owed. Money still owed is never counted as revenue.
  • Campaign performance gains a Not deductible column.
